Appearance: Maharl hardly seems demonic at first glance, having the appearance of a six year old child, and an adorable one at that. Standing at only waist-height to most people, she nevertheless displays a few demonic traits. Her eyes are a cerise red, and she has small fangs. Likewise, her ears are tapered to a point, much as an elf's would be, all characteristic of the inhabitants of the Demon Realm. Her hair is long, mauve in colour, and curls at the ends with two "antenna" pieces that sit higher than the rest. Her outfit consists of a red dress trimmed with white fur, which fastens with a single button in the front, red boots and a low red hat. She is also never seen without her teal "doll", a scary-looking stuffed creature with bat-like ears and sharp teeth.

Personality: Maharl is very demanding and bossy, stemming from her belief that she is indeed an heir to the Demon Throne and King Krichevskoy's youngest child. To her 'big brother', Laharl, she is both adoring, and extra-critical. Although she acknowledges that Laharl's place is to become next Overlord, true to demon nature she's always watching to see if he makes any mistakes that she could use to prove him unworthy. Although she appears to like making new friends, she often treats them as beneath her, especially if they'll let her, and refer to them as servants or vassals whether they are or not.

She has a sweet tooth and likes eating, dislikes getting dirty or messy, and changes her mind on a whim. She often requests outrageous things only to disregard them later. Maharl often shows questionable loyalty, willing to throw allies aside at a moment's notice and simply pick them back up when it becomes convenient for her.

Abilities/Strengths: Although she is capable of summoning demonic energy (usually in ball or sphere form, to throw) Maharl's major strength is her manipulative mind and innocent looks. Likewise, she possesses enhanced strength, greater than that of a human's, but considerably less than other demons because of her age and stature. She is also very agile and quick, but not able to take many direct blows and prefers to dodge or even run from them.

Weapons: Demon Sphere, an attack that draws off her own energy. She uses this sparingly.

Weaknesses: Like all demons, Maharl is weak to holy or light magic. Likewise, despite being stronger than a human, she is still considered a "weaker" demon, particularly in comparison to Laharl. Additionally, she still possesses a child's stature, and so physical limitations such as running, or climbing, are still present.

AU ; HISTORY

The demon Kairaishi, one of many vying for the Demon Throne after the death of King Krichevskoy, created Maharl in order to gain information on the treasures of the Demon Realm. Originally planning to make her as a puppet and merely control her actions, Kairaishi instead chose to create an entirely separate demon, implanted false memories into Maharl's mind to make her think that she was the daughter of King Krichevskoy and the younger sibling of Laharl, the heir to the Demon Throne. Many of the memories given to Maharl were past-related, and how Kairaishi gained knowledge of such specifics such as King Krichevskoy's talks and actions with his son, Laharl, is unknown. She also has memories of her mother, although she does not share Laharl's human mother, and therefore is actually only a half-sister to Laharl.

Positive that such a plan could not fail, Kairaishi set Maharl against the then-Prince, Laharl, hoping to locate some weakness in him that Kairaishi could exploit. Ordering Maharl to include herself with Laharl and his friends, the demon Etna and the angel Flonne, Maharl attempted to gain information on things certain treasures and objects from her 'big brother'. Although Laharl pretended to play along, he was merely using her.

Kairaishi, through Maharl, also commanded the Demon Emperors, a group of hell-riders who were supposedly trying to capture Maharl. Instead, they caught Flonne and used her as bait to lure Laharl, where Maharl revealed herself to be trying to kill him like all the other demons.

Laharl proved more than a match for Kairaishi however, and with that defeat, Maharl began returning to a puppet state, only to be pulled into Econtra just before. However, some of her false memories were lost, including those of her creation by Kairishi, and the battle at the mines. To Maharl, she is King Krichevskoy's daughter, knowing no differently that her own memories are false. Whether or not she will ever realize this, is unknown.

AU ; NOTES & CANON

Although the character of Maharl was orginially conceived for the Disgaea game series as Laharl's younger sister, she was never actually created. In the anime, Makai Senki Disgaea, she appears in Episode 7, claiming herself to be Laharl's younger sister before attempting to betray him at the end of the episode. It is then that Maharl is revealed to be the doll/puppet, and the "doll" being the real demon which is defeated by Laharl.
